Julie Jaffee Nagel, Ph.D. has long blended her hybrid experiences in music and mental health. A graduate of The Juilliard School, the University of Michigan, and The Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, she has helped numerous people understand and overcome anxiety, depression, blocks to creativity, performance anxiety, relationship issues, and low self-esteem. Her expertise in working as a therapist and as a consultant with individuals and groups (musicians and others) with performance anxiety is recognized as exceptional.
Dr. Nagel has communication skills beyond the consulting room and concert hall. As a writer, she is published in major psychoanalytic, psychology, and music journals. As a presenter and teacher, she has offered lectures, workshops, presentations, and consultations locally, nationally, and worldwide to professional organizations of various disciplines as well as to students. She has won awards for her interdisciplinary work on music and emotion.
She is author of a regular blog on Psychology Today titled “Music to My Ears”.
Dr. Nagel is available for consultations, evaluations, presentations, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and clinical supervision.

The Association for Psychoanalytic Thought (APT) will present its 2012-2013
Annual Program on February 2, 2013 at the Steinway Gallery, Commerce Township, Michigan.
For this presentation, Dr. Nagel and Louis Nagel, DMA Professor of Piano, will be speaking on the relevance of music in mental life.
